AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD | GUAVATE MOUNTAIN RETREAT Set at the crown of a mountaintop in Guavate, Cayey, this peaceful refuge feels suspended above the landscape, with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains in every direction. A small winding road leads past a few neighboring residences to the property gate; from there, the path continues upward until the home reveals itself at what feels like the top of the world. The architecture has a tropical modernist undertone, with exposed concrete, practical lines, and wide outdoor spaces designed to let the landscape take center stage. The main residence opens to a generous wraparound veranda and expansive terrace with a pool table and bar area, all oriented toward the views. Inside, the ground level features a dramatic foyer with tall ceilings, an open kitchen, and living and dining areas that flow directly to the terrace, anchored by a working chimney! A rare and atmospheric feature in Puerto Rico, especially meaningful in the cooler mountain months of Cayey. Two bedrooms share a full bathroom on this level, while the entire second floor is dedicated to the primary suite, complete with an oversized walk-in closet, ensuite bathroom, and private covered balcony overlooking the landscape. Surrounded by blooming robles nativos with their lilac-pink flowers, towering red torch ginger, giant ferns and layered tropical foliage, the property feels both elemental and transportive, a place where mountain air and endless green meet in perfect balance. A round dipping pool is perfectly positioned to capture the views, while a separate guest cabaña offers two independent suites, each with their own kitchen and bathroom, separated by a lock-off door for flexibility and privacy. The property is fully supported by a whole-property backup generator and its own private water source with cistern and pump system, an exceptional advantage in today’s climate of water rationing and drought. Private, resilient, and deeply connected to the mountain landscape, this Guavate mountain retreat feels worlds away while remaining unmistakably Puerto Rico.
