Classical music doesn't always have to be serious—and Sarasota Orchestra's Classical Music Humor is designed to showcase its lighter side.
The 75-minute, no-intermission concert is led by Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero and features pianist Terrence Wilson.
The program includes Rossini's Overture to The Barber of Seville, Haydn's Surprise movement, Mozart's A Musical Joke, Johann Strauss II's Thunder and Lightning Polka, Michael Daugherty's Le Tombeau de Liberace, and Prokofiev's Symphony No. 1 (Classical).
Guerrero provides commentary throughout the program, helping audiences discover the wit, surprises, and playful elements hidden within the music.
It's an especially interesting choice for people who enjoy classical music, as well as those who may want a more approachable introduction to the genre.
